Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 18, 2026

Introduction

Asternic Corp. respects your privacy when you use our website, products, and browser extensions. This Privacy Policy applies to the FOP2 website and FOP2 browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, including FOP2 WebPhone PRO (collectively, “FOP2,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

This policy explains both the information Asternic may receive and the data that FOP2 software may process on behalf of a customer through a customer-configured FOP2/Asterisk server. Most telephony data is processed by the customer's own infrastructure. Asternic does not operate, administer, or have routine access to customer FOP2 servers.

Information processed by the FOP2 website

Like most website operators, the FOP2 website may receive non-personally-identifying technical information normally provided by browsers and servers, such as browser type, language preference, referring site, IP address, and the date and time of each request. We use this information to operate, secure, and understand the use of our website.

The FOP2 website may use Google Analytics for these purposes. You can use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or browser tracking protections if you do not want Analytics to be used. FOP2 browser extensions do not include Asternic-operated analytics or advertising trackers.

Customer-configured FOP2 and PBX servers

FOP2 WebPhone PRO is a client for the FOP2 and Asterisk server configured by the user or their organization. It is not a standalone telephone service. The extension may process extension identity, authentication information, contacts, presence, call state, telephone numbers, call history, queue state, voicemail state, and related PBX information to provide its telephony features.

The FOP2 extension and password are stored in chrome.storage.session. They are removed when the user signs out and are not intended to persist after the Chrome session ends. Server address and user preferences may be stored locally in the browser so the extension can reconnect to the customer-selected server. Asternic does not receive these credentials through the extension.

Telephony records and settings may also be retained on the customer's FOP2/PBX server according to the configuration and retention rules selected by that server's administrator. Requests to access, correct, export, or delete information stored on a customer server must be directed to that organization or administrator.

Optional access to web page content

The extension can optionally request permission to inspect and modify web pages for the user-facing click-to-call features. This access is used only to intercept tel: links and identify likely telephone numbers so they can be converted into call actions. These options are disabled by default and can be enabled or disabled in the extension settings.

Page analysis is performed locally in the browser. FOP2 does not transmit page contents or browsing history to Asternic. When the user clicks a detected number, only that selected telephone number is passed to the customer's configured FOP2 server to place the requested call.

Optional real-time call transcription

FOP2 WebPhone PRO can provide real-time call transcription only when a compatible transcription provider has been configured and the feature has been enabled on the customer's FOP2 server. The server administrator selects the provider, supplies and controls the provider account and API credentials, chooses whether transcription is available or starts automatically, and defines the applicable retention settings.

When transcription is active:

  • Audio from the call is transmitted over an encrypted connection from the extension to the transcription provider selected by the administrator, currently OpenAI or Deepgram.
  • The extension uses temporary access credentials issued through the customer's FOP2 server. The provider's permanent API key is not delivered to the browser.
  • The provider returns transcript text to the extension.
  • Transcript segments may be sent to and stored on the customer's FOP2 server according to the retention policy configured by its administrator.
  • Processing by OpenAI or Deepgram is governed by the provider's terms, privacy policy, account configuration, and data-retention controls.

Asternic does not select the customer's transcription provider, supply the provider credentials, or receive, store, review, sell, or use customer call audio or transcripts for advertising, analytics, or model training. Asternic would only receive such material if a customer deliberately provided it in a support request.

The customer organization and its server administrator are responsible for providing any required notices, obtaining all necessary authorization or consent from users and call participants, and complying with applicable privacy, employment, telecommunications, call-recording, and monitoring laws. Users should contact their organization or FOP2 server administrator regarding transcription availability, access, retention, or deletion.

Service providers and disclosure

We may use service providers to operate the public FOP2 website, such as hosting, security, payment, support, and website analytics providers. They may process information only as necessary to provide those services and subject to their contractual and legal obligations.

For optional transcription, OpenAI or Deepgram acts as a provider selected and contracted through the account controlled by the customer or server administrator. Asternic does not transfer customer audio or transcripts to those providers for its own purposes.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and security of Asternic, our users, or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets where legally permitted. We do not sell personal information or use extension data for personalized advertising.

Data security

FOP2 WebPhone PRO is designed to use encrypted HTTPS and WSS connections for server communication and transcription. Customers are responsible for securely configuring and maintaining their FOP2, PBX, WebRTC, provider, and network infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Cookies and browser storage

The FOP2 website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site and remember preferences. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies, although some website features may not work correctly.

FOP2 browser extensions use Chrome storage rather than website cookies to retain extension settings. Session credentials and persistent preferences are handled as described above.

Limited use

Information obtained through browser permissions is used only to provide or improve the extension's disclosed, user-facing telephony and click-to-call features, to maintain security and reliability, or as required by law. It is not sold or transferred for advertising, credit scoring, or data-broker purposes. Our use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

FOP2 may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. Material changes to extension data practices will be prominently disclosed as required before the new practices take effect.
